I see the light on the CK superflex stuff. The difference is insane.

    Great torches for sure!

Just careful not to flex that head until it's warmed up after use.

A shame it took like 4 months to tell my once used CK torch.

In all reality, it's got to wait. The trailer project needs to be completed first, then I want to find a beater vehicle. I'm leaning towards an old jeep or ranger currently.

If I get the old ranger, I'd be building a flatbed for fun, though converting an old jeep to a flatbed sounds like fun to.

Then maybe the self-driving tool box after that...

You could probably get one of those electric trailer dollys for under a grand. Does it have to be 4wd? 1wd tool box sounds pretty sweet too

i'm actually watching facebook right now for a small yard tractor or atv for yard moving duties. but again, i need to finish the trailer before i can pick anything up.

    have you seen my trailer?!?

i don't do anything the easy way!

if i did do the wheeled tool box, it needs to be 4wd, with 4-wheel steering, on tracks, with air ride, all remote controlled. because the level of difficulty to get to any of those steps is incremental in hassle than just doing a basic rolling tool box. the motor/suspension/steering rack setup would occupy a similar non-functional area that a static-rolling box would have anyways

the front axle only kits really aren't that bad on pricing to get two of them
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CMHFZ919/
and neither are the track costs, which have the advantage of not needing to deal with tires losing air. aliexpress has plenty of these same kits for slightly cheaper
    https://www.amazon.com/Track-Assembly-600mm-Wheels-Snowmobile/dp/B0B24MPMQ2/

though a big reason i want to do the pit box framing is so i can fit custom 120v powered speaker enclosures between the tool box sections(or utilize the atv batteries). most tool box pieces latch onto each other to add length--basically 3/16-1/8" 'j-channel', so having the pit box frame to instead hold each piece separately would allow me to add width between each tool box section to add non-official custom sections for speakers, power strips, or switching, without getting into really crazy custom metal forming to recreate that latching design--a process i don't have the space for the tooling.

a big part of it is the logic that a 'real' pit box from any of the big brands, to fit a similar space, can easily run $30-60k brand new.

if i'm using menards/montezuma tool box sections, i can get all of the sections needed for less than $6-7k. if i budget $10-15k for the entire build, i'm still getting a 'discounted' tool box that far exceeds the level of performance that the 'real' tool box brands can offer, and is self-propelled on top of it.

in for a penny, in for a pound!

Build thread in sig... 4-link long travel
Skid steer it. One full length track/motor per side. Two channel tx/rx really widens your options for remote control. Keeps the cost down too.

Those cheap Amazon/Chinese metal hole saws did exactly what I was after. I first cut a hole into a scrap piece using the drill press, and then clamped that piece to the skid plate to enlarge/reposition the existing hole. Once it was clamped I was able to use my dewalt drill to cut the bigger hole into the skid plate. I kinda knew that I needed to drill the holes more towards the wheels so using the guide hole, I was able to get the extra space I need to make this old flawed skid plate fit more easily. After the battle I had with it the first time (20 years ago) I swore never to take it off the truck, but time was not kind to the rattle can paint job, and it was well over due to clean it up...

I did have to custom make some 1/4" "washers" to make up the gap between the mount and the bolt head, and I had to use longer diff bolts, but those were small potatoes, and already had a good 14mm drill bit, and the right grade 8 bolts on hand (from a long removed diff drop).

20 year skid plate maintenance, check.

The hole saw did leave a burr on the top and bottom of the hole, and I ended up using a diamond cone (I had for tile) bit on the angle grinder to knock the burr down.

Been wanting a fixture table for a while and was able to get a 30”x65” piece of 3/4” carbon plate for $65. Spent another $44 on some scraps and $65 on adjustable feet and this is where I am. Shelf being added to the bottom with some other things and then the frame gets painted.

Around 5 hours to drill 189 holes. Maybe an hour for layout.

    Power to ya

My friend did that as well a couple of years ago but went with 4" centers

He said he's been meaning to add some 2" center holes but it was a bitch and a half drilling all of those holes with his mag drill

I remember him telling me he hated the mess it created more than anything

It certainly wasn’t fun lol. I went with 3” centers to cut down on number of holes drilled. Definitely not a fan of the oil and shavings slung everywhere but I’ll take that for saving a couple thou on a table

The holes done on a mag drill are crazy nice too; are you gonna go through and chamfer them? Would look way better if you did!

When I plasma cut one out, I had to run a reamer cause I intentionally undersized them by about 0.1". That in itself was a pain in the ass as well.

I hit both top and bottom of all the holes with a countersink bit to chamfer them ever so slightly, hard to see in the pics

Finally isnt 15 degrees in the shop so I gave this a try. Never thought a tig lead could make welding so much more enjoyable and fun.

This and the Lincoln 3350 are the best two things I've gotten so far.
