Skar Sub

Anyone running this sub instead of JL audio to replace JBL? I’d rather buy the enclosure and get the kicker rt if the Skar sub isn’t that good. Also what makes it hard to swap over from JBL is it the Amp and the head unit? Would I be better off gutting the whole jbl system?

 

Best option is to completely gut the JBL system (you can keep the head unit if you want) but a full replacement system including speakers, amps, interfaces, will run you two or three grand for an entry/medium level system. Will blow the JBL away though

 

Also, if you have the JBL system I don’t think this skar enclosure will work for you because you don’t have the longer cubby on the back wall that this fits down into

 

Yeah Id have to buy the factory cubby without jbl like the JL stealth box uses which is like $100. But I also want to use the trail grid off-road plug and play kicker speakers that are like $400 or get some on Crutchfield. I don’t think it’d be more than $1500 and would sound a lot better. What all would I need? I just know I need an amp to match rms on either the Skar or kicker sub, amp wiring kit, the plug and play speakers shouldn’t need anything, and I think a line output converter, I’ve never had a car with factory amp and everything so idk how to bypass that or keep it in the system with new amp.

 

I have seen guys just swap that sub out with a better one with increased performance. IIRC Fosgate is a popular choice. Give it a search and see what comes up.

Save up and get a new head unit ,add a 5 channel amp and replace the speakers , separates up front , coax in back and a good sub. Don’t look back such a game changer
