Just got the call back from the dealer. Transmission is cooked. Posting to document as this doesn’t seem to be a common issue… but things happen.

2018 TRD OR with 155k miles. Mild lift, 4.88 gears.
Changed the fluid every 50-60 thousand miles. Was perfectly happy until Friday when it developed teeth jarring torque converter shudder in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear. Drove it until Monday night as otherwise, it shifted through all gears completely fine. No codes or pending codes. Obviously, Toyota dealers don't work on transmissions so they are replacing the entire thing.

Shout out the unlimited mileage powertrain warranty they threw in for free when I bought the truck 6 years ago. Warranty company approved the work no questions asked. Never thought I’d actually use it…

Dang, first time I have heard one pooped the bed, but with millions out there, one or two is bound to fail. Good thing it's under warranty.

Just curious if you did the fluid change or the dealer? Wondering if they would question the warranty coverage if it wasn’t the dealer. I haven’t had any major warranty work done, and was interested in how much they question the failure reasons.

Changed the fluid in my driveway. Considering Toyota thinks the fluid is "lifetime" what could they really say...

Conversation with dealer went like this: "Yeah, your transmission is done. We noticed you had a warranty on file with in your information. We called them, they approved the work. We will let you know when you can pick up the truck, deductible is $100"
