Finished the engine swap and have the old 3.4 sitting on a dolly. The engine has low miles (162k) but lost compression in all cylinders hence the replacement.

I also have an extra harness and throttle body.

Curious if there is value left in the engine as a core and what I should realistically ask for it.

    Thanks!

There are far more qualified people to be answering this, but as long as the heads and everything are in good shape, and I was in need, I'm thinking $800. A proper rebuild would take another $500 or so

$800 is too generous for a core that lost all compression. $800 will buy me a running 5vz in CA.

I get core engines up here in WA for $400 or less, can get a good running one (high miles) for less than a grand already. Right now in my area there are three for under $200 and one for $350 on FB market.

I guess my thought is that I wouldn't see a difference - I'd be rebuilding both since I wouldn't know the history of the running one, so they'd have the same value to me. I guess it matters what's causing the lack of compression...

Same here. Recently purchased one while the engine was still in the truck for $900 to verify engine's condition.

So what would be a fair asking price to start? I was originally thinking of scrapping it but if I can get a few bucks I am game. Just not sure what to expect... The theory from the mechanic that worked on it was the low compression was due to the cylinders being washed out so it could probably be re-ringed and good to go. I assume that the heads were fine and aside from some varnish no sludge, etc.

Will post on Craigslist and see what happens I suppose. Start at $400?

Does the harness have any value for folks doing 3.0 to 3.4 swaps? Its complete from ECU plugs forward.

The harness has a ton of value and there's a Facebook group for 3.4 swaps. The engine yeah Id toss it up there for 400 and take the first offer over 250 if it's in mostly good condition.

Do you need another 5VZ? The used market overfloweth up here with the things.

It's kind of why I have a stock pile of them. Figure we're going to find the edge of the race truck engine. I'm pretty confident in my current one that's in the truck though, but I've still got one on the stand for that too.
