    You can't *order* any Tacoma.

You can tell them what you want and hope there is an allocation that is close coming somewhere close to you.

I just got a 24 manual off road. They are around. Just keep searching even if you have to travel a little further. Worth it. Also def test drive one so you know what you are gonna be working hard to find and buy.

Hatch Toyota in Show Low, shows one Off-Road, but it may still be in transit.

I've been waiting for 3+ months now for a silver MT offroad. I'm still patient.

I saw a thread the other day that Toyota doesn't make many MT Tacomas (2%) because there isn't any demand. MTs aren't everybody's cup of tea; probably the most polarizing of options for any prospective buyer.

However, if Toyota sets production to 2%, and doesn't allow special orders, it is Toyota that is in fact, setting demand. Their allocation system, optimized for production/distribution/supply chain efficiencies, comes at the expensive of making some options hard to get.

Citing customer demand to justify low production numbers is disingenuous corporate double-speak.

Yes they are. Less than 2% of 4th gen’s have a clutch pedal.

Companies that build what sells can sell at lower prices and stay profitable. The more options companies offer the more their product costs and they make less profit. The costs of those options are spread out across the entire product line and even those who buy base models are paying more for them than they should. If Toyota completely dropped manual transmissions, they could make more profit and likely lower prices by a few hundred dollars across the board.

Henry Ford figured this out over 100 years ago when he said that a customer could get a Model T in any color he wanted as long as it was black.

Manuals are harder to find simply b/c dealers aren’t asking for them.

When your lot is still heavy with ‘24’s, ordering a truck from the factory that has a customer take-rate under 5% is prohibitive. On the bright side, if you do want one, scarcity makes the hunt more exciting, and a fun road trip home probably awaits after you purchase it.

It's not bull. The dealers can't order what you want. But, they can see what Toyota is scheduled to produce and reserve something that is close. I just went through this. Be aware that of the dozen or so dealers I contacted only two were willing to go through the effort. Both found the same trucks (there were 9 of them). I had a deposit down on one within minutes of the dealer sending me the spec sheet. The second dealer found the trucks, but didn't contact me until two days later. I ordered mine on January 8th. I'm hoping to have it early April.

Keep in mind that the manual transmission trucks are only 2% of the total production. Plus, they are only made at the central Mexico factory, not Baja. That involves more travel time, and logistics to get them where you live.

I just called around to a few local dealers and let them know what I was looking for. None of them had any on the lots but one had a manual OR in a color I liked coming in. Maybe I just got lucky but it was only like a 5 week wait and about 40 miles from me.

Play the waiting game or search out of state. You never can custom order a Toyota in the 20+ years my family has been owning Toyotas. The dealerships will just give you a wishlist and will hope for an exact/close match to get allocated to you.

I got told to wait for a year for a manual Tacoma TRD Off-Road back at 2022. I jumped on somebody's canceled order 6-7 months in.

This would be nice if Smart Path had a check box to select manual transmission.

I agree. Some dealer website let you search their inventory on transmission.

I put a refundable deposit at my local dealership, and they promised to find me an allocation for an off-road. After 6 months of waiting, I found a dealership 200 miles away that had one built and inbound ... then they delivered it to me for $100 after selling it to be below MSRP.

My local dealership has only had two manuals so far: a Sport and an SR. Both were sold before hitting the lot.

My wife found my MT by searching new vehicles on Auto Trader. She specified OR, MT, and blue crush. My truck had been designated for a dealer in another state (about 100 miles away) so I put in a deposit and picked it up when it arrived about 60 days later. They're out there--and worth the hunt!
