Good morning MD. I wanted to tell you all what happened when my 23 year old daughter took her 2023 Hyundai Kona to Jones for her “free” oil change. She bought the car new and it currently has 12k miles on it. The tech who performed the oil change told her she needed new tires better suited for the winter and he told her she would be safer doing it right then. My daughter called me, I asked to speak with the tech and surprisingly he was unavailable and they told my daughter she was safe to leave. How do these techs sleep at night?

 

Glad your daughter called you...but that is sad that techs pull that kinda stuff.

 

This makes me mad that a dealer, and one that I occasionally use for the free oil changes as well, did this to your daughter. I know that it’s a business and they are in it to make money and some employees get a commission bump too… but to tell a young woman that she needs them now or won’t be safe driving is absurd!

Did you reach out to the service manager by chance, file a complaint about said person?

 

They should know better! Does that dealer do a video walk around? Jones Toyota does.

12k is not enough to really even have the tires broke in yet. Unless they are the cheapest tires out there, there is nothing wrong with them. Sorry that happened to her but glad she called you and asked.

Eric, I know you are running the Ironman setup… are you running the full leaf pak with your kit? Any thoughts I should know about?

Got a lead on a brand new full pak (0-440lb) kit with bushings and u bolts. Seems like a great deal, just don’t wanna be disappointed.

Online reviews are really good, but those can be bought, so…

 

Yep, I've got it and have had no real complaints. Once in a while squeaks if gunk gets between the leafs, some silicon spray or wool wax fixes it. I don’t tow and usually don’t have the bed filled. The few times I have, it’s been good. What rear shocks do you have? I don’t think you can use the oem shocks with it since you’ll get 2.5” lift or so. They are pretty beefy.

I coated them in Woolwax and have not had an issue with rust.

 

That’s good to know. I expected that there may be an occasional squeak… that seems to be the nature of all the aftermarket paks.

I don’t get a ton of squat, but I do get a fair amount when hauling the boat around on the weekends… but the dual axle trailer helps keep the tongue weight balanced and not as nose heavy on the truck. But non the less, there is squat and I figured this would help with the issue. I looked at the HD kit and they said if you’re not running at least 600lbs or so constantly, it will ride absolutely horrible! But these are much beefier than OEM, and that’s what I need.

Currently I’m just running a Supreme Suspension 1.5” billet block in the rear with the Eibach shocks. It does the job for lift, but adds ZERO towards load ratting.

 

Sounds right and with the new leaf pack you could get ride of the block.

If you don’t mind, you could get the HD leaf pack and take out a few leafs. That way if you ever add more constant weight to the back you could add them back in. Leafs are a pain to take apart though…

 

Done and done… picked up the new IronMan full leaf paks with bushings and ubolts. Dude found a new Old Man Emu drop bracket and drive shaft drop kit as well while getting it all together for me and threw them in for FREE!! All said it cost me $350 and a 15 minute drive to MtAiry… feel like this was definitely a score!!



…now, if I could just find a buyer for my CBI overland bed setup, I’ll be golden!!

 

Great score! Those things are heavy lol. Don’t forget to liberally grease the bushings when you instal. I used red and tacky. If your in Harford at any point a can get you some lolz
