2017 Tacoma rough idle/ misfire?

Hello all i have a 2017 Tacoma trd sport. V6 automatic. The truck is idling very rough. Rpm’s jump up and down. I’ll even notice it like if I’m coasting I can feel the vibration from the motor. The check engine light is not on as of yet. The problem started yesterday. I will probably call a mechanic on Monday but I’m curious what it could be. (If i posted in the wrong forum I apologize I’m a newbie here)

What was the fix then? Maybe start there.

 

Could be bad gas. Did you fill up or top off in the last few days? I filled up at an off brand gas station a couple weeks ago and my truck ran like crap until I topped it off with good gas.

 

$5 on it’s bad gas
$7 it’s the fuel pump
$10 it’s a dirty MAF sensor
$100 on you just need a tune, d00d!

 

Back then I put some fuel injector cleaner in the tank ran fine after that I don’t know was what did it but it was fine after that

 

*update* check engine light came on. Attempted to drive it to the part store. Cel started flashing I took it back home. The dash has check engine light and trac off light is on . I am taking it to toyota place on Monday

 

Check wiring around the engine.

 

Not within the last few days. The last time I filled up was about a week ago .

 

It’s been about a week since I filled up I don’t know if it would be bad gas. Probably could use a tuneup though

 

Misfire?

My Avalon did the same thing Needed new coil packs. CEL was also flashing. And I use Techron as well.

Aren’t there auto parts stores that will scan codes for free??

 

Replace your spark plugs.

 

I was making a joke. Those are things that people invariably post in these sorts of threads. Without more information, we can only guess what your problem is.

Thank you everyone for assistance. It was giving cylinder 3 misfire code. Spark plug was actually loose. Went ahead and got new spark plugs. It’s Running like a rolls Royce now

 

Thanks for following up with a description of the resolution. I’m happy the truck is back in health.

 

Common issue from the factory to have loose plugs. On my 2017, I went ahead and replaced plugs at 18k miles, but 6 years old at the time. All three on the passenger side were way loose not even finger tight and a couple on the driver side were loose.

I recently replaced them again at 63k miles and they were all snug.

 

That just goes to show how well these can last with even just a bit tightness here and a thrown in of spark plug there
