A few days ago, a member had his taco stolen. It’s unbelievable. My heart goes out.

Another member suggested that if the fob is turned off, outsiders would not be able steal the fob signal and defeat that kind of theft attempt.

I immediately went to my owners manual to do the shut off. And I did and I tested over and over.

Will this action save the 2nd love of my life ?

I use a Club steering wheel lock (got it as a gift 35 years ago). I leave my Fob on all the time but always take my garage door remote with me.

I store my keys in a faraday box and have a obd port lock. Neither will completely stop them but may slow them down.

Yes, do the FOB thing, then clutch it in your hands while you cower in the hallway coat closet.

Dude, are you really that paranoid? I hope not!

Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.
How do you shut the fob off?

Hold "Lock" then press "Unlock" twice
The fob goes into battery save mode and doesn't broadcast, so touch entry will not work. One press of "Unlock" turns the fob back on, unlocks the truck, and everything will operate as normal, unless/until you shut the fob back off

It's something I do if I'm leaving the truck parked outdoors overnight for cheap peace of mind

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
I don't know how people live anywhere that instills that much fear and paranoia in them.

Disabling your key fob? That's a thing?

If crime is that bad in your area, just move. Seriously. Or get a Tacoma SR with an old fashioned key.

It's as simple as using the tools at hand to secure my truck. If I'm traveling and staying over at a hotel or something and I shut my fob off, it's 3 seconds of my life, and I feel better knowing my truck is just a little less likely to be gone when I wake up. I lock my front door, too. If that makes me paranoid, then so be it

    I gotta answer some questions here;

I hadn’t thought of the club but, will seriously give it thought.

The fuel pump fuse is always removed at airports, trailheads etc… Great idea.

I built a faraday box. The jury is not back yet, but good idea.

Yes BH - I am that paranoid. I have never hid in a closet, but that is also a great idea. So I may.

UGW - I live in the ghetto. We call it Donkey Flats around here. Nicer neighborhoods can be prime targets too. Limited retirement income, everything is payed for, property taxes are under Howard Jarvis, I live in the land of fruits and nuts (california), and not moving. But also a good idea

Does a microwave work for blocking signals ? You didn’t state how any minutes on high. I have a lower end micro and it is not very powerful.

After posting this morning, I had some time this afternoon to mess with the deactivated fob. Once deactivated, it will neither lock/unlock the truck via touch entry and also will not start the truck unless you hold it to the starter button, similar to the dead fob battery procedure. Also, when activated, even leaving the fob in the bed is too far for the touch entry functions to activate. I haven't microwaved the fob because I'm not bougie enough to have a microwave, so cannot attest to the functionality of that option.

The word is "precaution" taking precaution, so it doesn't get stolen!
My truck is paid for, lots of mods, and it would suck if it was stolen, you'll never
get enough to replace it all with insurance, not paranoid, fearful,
cowering, just small deters, if they really want it, they'll pull up with a tow truck lift, gone!!
