If they truly have any. People have ordered and been contacted later telling them they don't have them after all.... it's because they don't make them anymore, and several other sellers have followed suit, besides royal purple and Amsoil's supplier

    they are.

I use regular wix filters, only a hundred thousand miles on my 17, so time will tell.

That's what I do, load up a case during the BF or other sales, from TOYTOA dealers.
I'm not taking chances to get fake filters and spark plugs.

At operating temperature, the Toyota filter causes 5.8 psi drop at 10 gpm, while the Amsoil filter causes 9.1 psi drop at 10 gpm:

    upload_2025-2-2_21-53-55.png

The above are tests of canister filters, so they are a test of the filter media, with the conclusion the Amsoil media is more restrictive than the Toyota media. In the case of cartridge filters, the Amsoil filter has an extra steel center tube with tiny slits. This center tube overlaps with the existing one in your filter housing to create even more egregious restriction:

Are our engine filters full flow? I honestly never checked.

Last I knew there were only a few engines that filtered all the oil from the pump.

Most engines are bypass oil filter.

I stand by the fact it's better change the oil more often then argue about what filter does a better job.

oil psi drop? Restrictive filters spike oil pressure.

^"Pressure drop" is simply a way of quantifying fluid flow restriction i.e. they have pressure gauges before and after the filter in the test loop. The pressure gauge after the filter will read lower than the one before the filter. In the vehicle, the oil pressure will spike; more restrictive filter will cause the bypass valve in the filter housing to open earlier, letting unfiltered oil through.

But poorly designed. The oil filter housing already has a steel center tube:

    upload_2025-2-2_23-2-25.png

Because Amsoil's synthetic media will collapse without support, there's an extra center tube that slips over the one in the filter housing:

    upload_2025-2-2_23-4-40.png

You can imagine a scenario where the two steel tubes overlap by dumb luck to completely block all the holes.

Amsoil should have used wire mesh backing to give filter media more support.

You are putting way too much thought into an oil filter.

respectfully disagree. Critical thinking is the basis of good engineering. On a topic where there's mostly opinion/habit pattern/mythology like oil and filters, having data (even if imperfect) leads to a more informed conversation. I love me some good natured TW ribbing, but hand it to @3JOH22A - got called out for a citation and promptly provided it.

My god, when was the last time someone had an engine failure because their oil filter hadn't filtered out the oil properly? Please show me a single instance and I will buy them a new engine. This idea that people have the by spending more they are getting more is nothing more than marketing. There are 1000 other things that will go bad before you see a contaminated oil failure..

Lol, so buying a slicked up paper filter is critical thinking? Critical thinking says put a more than adequate OEM filter in there and go have a damn beer. This thread (and those designer filters) are a fucking joke.

And this additional nugget of "critical thinking" brought to you by JV, our resident designer oil filter Rhode Scholar. Mazel Tov brother, Mazel Tov!
