Hello, I bought a set of Cardone CV Axles, the OEM have a seal on the outer end and the Cardone don't. Is this normal? Am I supposed to buy a seal or it doesn't need one?PXL_20250203_214420386~2.jpg PXL_20250203_214405153~2.jpg

    UPDATE

This came off the internal one.
Do I just put it back on or was it supposed to be attached to the internal seal?
    The internal seal seems good.
It wasn't previously leaking and I don't see anything wrong with it other than looking old.

If I put it on the metal ring back on and if I rotate the cv axle, it makes a grinding sound. Not super loud but you can hear it. Not sure if it's the metal ring or something else. I cleaned everything really good and made sure that there wasn't any dirt or grime left behind.

On the YouTube videos, I don't see this metal ring, only the exposed seal. It appears that this sits over it to shield it?

New cv should come with seal, go exchange it. Don’t reuse

Their photos on their website and on Amazon don't have a seal on the outer end. Unlike their other CV axles that do. That's why I'm confused.

Iirc it’s a dust shield that helps keep crud away from the inner seal. use a piece of pipe to hammer it on to the new cv to make sure it stays nice and straight. There’s probably a part number for new but I’ve transferred mine from CV to CV over the years :notsure:

How do I hammer it on? That side of the CV axle is flat, I don't see anything that it grabs onto.

That seal doesn’t go at the diff end, it seals the inboard side of the wheel bearing. Yes, you should have it, and no, I wouldn’t reuse it. That said, I don’t ever reuse seals as I hate doing jobs twice. YMMV.

From what I can find on the Cardone website, their remanufactured one (part #: 60-5134) does not come with the dust seal that goes at the end of the axle assembly and wheel hub assembly. Only their "new" one (part #: 66-5134) comes with it. So it looks like I would have to either reuse it, or buy a new one.

In regards to the metal round dust shield that goes between the inner CV axle and where I insert it, is that supposed to attach somewhere or does it just float in between?
