First time, long time. I just picked up an 2008 DCSB TRD Sport from my father in law. Truck has 272k on it and runs like a champ. Father in law kept a log of all the maintenance and it’s been well taken care of.

Since I’ve had it, I’ve changed the drive belt, idlers, and tensioner puller. And I have done the plugs and wires.

What else should I be looking to do for preventative maintenance?

I am going to do the coolant next. My father in law just used green coolant and it seems to have worked fine. Should I stick to green or flush and fill with pin?

He suggested that I replace all the coolant/water hoses. I could probably do upper/lower radiator but that’s where my expertise ends. What else would I be looking for?

    Some other issues:

There is a small fluid leak coming from the driver side axle. I’m assuming that a bearing that needs to be replaced.

I’ve also noticed a whooshing sound at low speed when making a sharp turn.

    Thanks!

Coolant flush and put the right stuff in . Thermostat , brake fluid flush and replace . Maybe just a drain and fill at the trans pan if your an automatic. 4wd ? Transfer case fluid change ,both differentials . Make sure your greasing the u joints in the drive shaft .

Luckily, he did the diffs, transfer case on regular intervals.

transmission scares me, like because of the miles and loss of friction if I do it. It’s running fine.

Recently did a pan drop, clean magnets, replace strainer/filter, and then 3 drain and fills over 500 miles on my 13 with 190k since I'm planning on driving it for as long as possible. Like you I was worried of doing it due to the miles and never being done, but it definitely shifts smoother now. I kept all the old fluid so I could "switch it all back" in case of loss of friction and slipping but that was a couple thousand miles ago so I think I would have seen it by now. YMMV but just figured I'd give my experience. I would def not do a true power flush, I tried to do it the most "gentle" way.

Right ,no power flush . Drop pan clean magnets before if you do . Or just the drain and fill method like you did

Also might consider a power steering fluid flush.

I always replace the oem fluid with universal coolant. StopTech has on the label the coolant ingredients required by Toyota. At 200K I replaced the radiator and water pump, and the bypass hoses, for preventive maintenance and my peace of mind. Also the fan and fan clutch, and thermostat.

My goal would be to get all that done but the water pump and bypass hoses are beyond my pay grade.

I'll be replacing my fan/clutch as I get closer to 200k miles. Seen a few pics of fans letting go and causing a lot of collateral damage.

Stick with Aisin parts, the OEM manufacturer. Pricing was not too bad on rockauto. For hoses I went with Gates. The radiator was CST, the single roe, not the pricey aluminum one they have for Tacomas.

My Truck has 166K . In need of cleaning throttle body and MAF . Also new plugs . Think the plugs have been changed only once . Have to check my records. Never did throttle body or MAF
