What's everyone's preference on the auto parking brake? Are we leaving it on, are we disabling it? Any insight as to why, either way? I will admit, I don't really like the idea of the parking brake being applied every time I put the truck in park, though I have no real reason to base that on - clearly Toyota thought it was important. Automatic-transmission vehicles have seemingly been parking on hills and inclines for decades without parking brakes on, so not sure what changed in 2024...

Turn it off, when 4th gen was released I was planning on making a quick video to show how to disable it but got lazy and no one ever brings it up.

Offroading it would be super annoying.
Long term its a wearable item, they get louder with time.
As you mentioned. Let me decide.

I don't like the auto parking brake being on. I'll use the parking brake even when I don't think it's necessary, but I don't want it to engage on it's own.

Would be shifting into park be what engages the auto brake?

Does anything else engage the auto brake like opening the driver's door while in gear?

I might be the only one here that actually likes it. Every auto or manual I've owned I've used the parking brake before letting off the brake pedal in park/in gear. Just a weird habit I've gotten into over the years.

Up here you either use it all the time or not at all.
Way complex, way expensive. Guaranteed wiring corrosion issues..

Makes sense if you are going to use the parking anyway one less step in the process. I use the parking brake when parking on hills which isn't often. Most of the time I use to keep the truck from rocking or rolling after I shift into park and it feels like it's taking a while for the truck to stay still.

I read something last week about a Supert Duty rolling away and killing the driver. I think the auto parking brake will become a mandated saftey feature sooner than later.

Yea it's a PA State Inspection requirement for a functional parking brake. Use it or lose it with all the corrosion from the salt around here. Now the electronic ones, not sure. Its got weather pack connectors, but we all know they can still seep in water. Time will tell.

I’m worried on both sides of it; if I don’t turn the APB on, I’ll never use it - and if it doesn’t get used, those motors will almost certainly seize or fail over time.

if I use it, it sounds like I’m landing a spaceship in my driveway when I park, and I’d be worried about premature wear or sticking in cold weather.

My driveway isn’t long but somewhat steep - the trucks inclinometer indicates 30 degrees when I’m parked in it, however, being an automatic, “park” holds it without issue. So, idk, sounds like everyone just disables it, which is what I’m leaning towards.

Yea technically it is here too however, if you knew the 100’s of cars that wouldn’t move after a state inspection here and saying it’s our fault etc..Yea fun times I don’t miss..

Putting 50% of the truck’s weight (30 degree angle trigonometry) on the parking pawl is a horrible idea over time. You should absolutely use the parking brake all the time
