I am perplexed. Radio sounds great, then it’s completely muffled. A day or two later it’s fine. Go to lunch. Turn on and can’t make out a word. What is going on? I have no more hair to pull out.

When it is loud look in the upper left of the radio screen to see if the orange HD signal is up. When it is muffled bet the HD is not showing. Mine does this a lot depending on how good the HD radio signal in your area is. You can just turn off HD and avoid the problem. Not unique to Toyota. My jeep did this a lot as well. Assuming of course this is the problem and not something else

Happens on both JBL and non, I don’t listen to the radio so no issues here

Thanks for your help. However, I get in my truck start it up radio fine. Leave work for lunch, start up the truck and stereo completely muffled. No HD Radio on. I don’t understand why this keeps happening. Any thoughts? Thank you

I had a similar problem where the audio out of nowhere would sound muffled on my jbl. It would happen every few days where my equalizer settings would reset back to default mode. Hasn’t done it in a really long time.
But that still doesn’t explain your situation where it intermittently sounds muffled on its own.

Tap on head unit and sub box while it’s happening and see if intermittent connection.

I have this issue in my 2024 JBL. HD radio only. No other sound sources.

I changed all my speakers to Kicker and added a Kicker Key Amp.. sounds better than the JBL upgrade stereo system
