Got a 2002 Tacoma with 368,000 miles. I recently had my oil changed at the dealer and shortly after I noticed the idle had become rougher than before, started noticing small oil leaks in my driveway, and a noise from the motor that doesn’t sound great… some sort of slight knock or other metallic-like noise. Haven’t been able to diagnose this yet and the dealer said they couldn’t either. This has not impeded performance and the truck drives like normal other than those symptoms. Symptoms have not gotten worse in the subsequent days either- they’ve stayed the same. I checked the oil and wondered if they had overfilled the oil at the dealership. What do you guys think? Too much oil? And could that lead to the symptoms I’m having? Any other ideas? No CEL’s or other warning on the dash.

Too high of an oil level can aireight (whip up and introduce air). The bearings can be starved and damaged. The oil captivation could certainly do damage. Kind of like pitting in a hydrolic system with air in it.

I don't know about the symptoms you're having but overfilled oil is a quick way to kill your catalytic converter. Just do another oil change (no need to replace the filter if the service department did) and next time don't return to that place.

Or you could try to suck out the excess with a tube and syringe. Haven't ever needed to do this so YMMV.

If the oil is fresh no need to waste it all. Drain it into a clean pan and return the correct amount to the engine.

And a 328k leaks would be expected if various gaskets/seals have not been replaced over the years.
