You remove the plug to unlock the shifter when it does not unlock itself after starting the engine and pressing the brake pedal. Looks like it has been repeatedly removed. I'm guessing this truck is used to you.

This may pan out to be a good thread, given OP’s response.

Why’s it look all marred up and missing that piece then?

First off thank you to those who have come to my rescue.

Hi there, I'm the Goofy non-IDIOT Clown, I truly do not understand @jcesp chastising.
First you thank me for a SOLID answer to the part of your question I could readily answer. Leaving the remainder of your inquiry to those I knew would be by soon to get you the part number as this topic has been repeatedly brought up on this site. I could have, as others are practicing on this site TELL you to consult the manual. I only take that tack when it is easier to read from the manual. I find that practice discourteous in my opinion.

Others did not even attempt to inform you of just what the hole is for, they did not need to as that part of your inquiry had been answered.

You had two desires, as far as I could tell from your post; You desired to get a replacement for what your picture shows as a mangled plug/hole, and you desired to know what the purpose of said hole was.

Your picture seems to show, on first glance, a hole with a portion of the plug still in place and 90 degrees out sync. This interpretation and the fact you did not know what the hole was for indicated to me that you were not the original owner and that anything could have happened in the past. You don't entirely know what your used vehicle went through before reaching you.

If you do not like guesses or informed intuition, then make a better post. Particularly a better picture, I now know that the plug is totally missing, not mangled and mis-installed by 90 degrees. I know this by going out to my own truck and removing the plug, once more, and taking a good look at the hole from the oblique angle of your picture.

    Please develop some civility.

I think I would start out by giving that console a good cleaning then replace the missing TAB. IMO
