Scan tool recommendation for trans temp detect mode when changing fluid

Can confirm the OBDLink+ can read the A/T temperature. I used it to monitor temps while towing a heavy 6x12 UHaul across half the country back in November, worked great.

This is just a sample screenshot but A/T Oil Temperature 1 is what I believe is the pan temp. I put A/T Oil Temperature 2 on my display just to see if there is a difference and yes there is in the real world. I am guessing it is the torque converter temp but don't take my word for it just observations.

 

Excellent, thanks. I’m planning a drain and fill for the first time so this will be super helpful. Have had the OBDlink for a while now and figured I’d research if they have this functionality before resorting to the alternative. So, idle the truck until the Temp1 reading gets to around 100-110F?

 

No scanner necessary for transmission temps. You can put the truck into a special mode using only the shifter. Don't recall how, but a pdf from TIS was posted within the last few months in the forum that explains the procedure.
