Exactly. OP please message your partner to check down by her right knee to check 4wd switch status. As others have mentioned, you can cause some serious, and costly, damage by binding things up by turning in 4wd on dry pavement. Turning it back into 2wd is an easy thing to explain over the phone…if your familiar with it.

On my way to truck now. She says she tried the 4x4 switch. Will know soon.

Can always yank the front driveshaft if it is stuck in 4wd

Welp, Tacoma driving privileges reinstated. I didn’t plug the switch back in when I put the dash back together. Thankfully that 4x4 switch surround can pop out the front without taking the dash apart.

I don’t understand how it got into 4WD tho. I’ve driven it since then. She was also able to get out the driveway and run a couple errands. And then randomly it swaps to 4WD and she has the issues.

Thanks for the thoughts and help.

...yeah, you can't 'unbreak' it, and being familiar with them, it was like fingernails on a chalkboard when I read it, and I don't want you to get hurt if it was avoidable. ...I brought up the going on forums such as this one as reading real apples to apples experiences with people who might have been in your position, and those familiar with it, can better help you get a sense of what you can probably do, and what you shouldn't. ....aka, 'why reinvent the wheel'....
