My truck key was lost, but identifiable. I'm worried someone would find it and steel my truck. Can I have the vehicle re-key'd, so the lost key won't function?

Any lock smith or dealer can "delete" any missing keys. They wont start it anymore, if its a smart key, it wont unlock the door except for the blade.

If you're really worried you can have it re-keyed with a lock set.

Thanks. I'll ask at the dealer. Probably will have to purchase a replacement anyway.

Any idea where you lost your keys and how someone might know it belongs to your truck?

Over the years I have seen car keys on the ground. I don’t touch them because I don’t know who they belong to and figure the owner may try to re-trace their steps and come back for the keys.

Edit: after posting my initial question, I realize there are bad people out there that don’t have the best intentions like I do.

It seems like a stretch that a thief would find your keys and then find your truck. Even if they did, it would be your insurance company’s problem. Don’t go out of your way to make it easy on them. You are paying good money for your insurance.
