    What's the difficulty on this?

It varies depending on the route we take, can be from mild to wild, lol.
I live pretty close so PM me your number and we can set up a little trip.

Just reviving this thread as we do a lot of MTB trail building in the area(s)... This was named Drug Airport far before that. In highschool we would offroad this and party up there circa 2002ish? Not sure how accurate the story actually is but it was a small puddle jumper lander strip for narcotics back in the 70's and 80's. The name has def been around a long time though... Pretty sure it was named that during my parents and aunt/uncles area when they grew up here too.. There are still some other areas that are around but not really accessible except for hiking and maybe hike a biking just to get to them because of housing projects. Lawrence Welk area is still pretty untapped except the the area that MTB trails were built above the AMPM where they have fenced off and hired security.. It was supposed to be either a resort style housing district or something of the sort but COVID along with some other environmental lawsuits slowed them down. I wouldn't be surprised if it all started going up soon though. We used to climb it in the 4x4's on the old twin oaks valley road side before the gate went up. I did it in a 2x4 4banger 98 ranger on the 15 freeway side in the dark once after the rain. Was actually pretty sketchy but ... you know.... teens.. lol.

Very cool to see this thread pop up. This area, north of Deer Springs Road, between Twin Oaks Valley and I-15, was where I first tested my new (2010) Tacoma's 4WD system (i.e. A-TRAC, etc.)... and was blown away!

Def a lil hidden jem if you can get to it without getting caught. We used to do all the hills in coronado hills (top of the world) above CSUSM but too much building went in once San Elijo was built. Some ragers out there for sure! LOL

I still go there on my dirtbike all the time to get a quick ride in, it's like a 5 minute ride for me from my house. There are less entrances and exits than there once was, it's good to know where they are at just in case your egress needs to vary. ;)

Back in the mid-late 70s... that was where we went to chat with distant people on our CB radios! It was also where we took our dates for some great views down Valley Parkway and Mission Avenue (and some hugging and squeezing)!
