Hi, I've seen a couple of people with that problem and mine had the same one, when the vehicle is hot, let it sit for 30-45 minutes and then it cranks but hardly starts.

Fortunatly for me the dealer I went to already had customers with that issue and told me it's related to the low pressure injectors that leak after the truck is shut off. So 30-45 minutes after the truck can't start but 4h+ after the gas has time to evaporate and then the truck starts normally.

I hope this helps a couple people, have a good day!

Welcome to TW. Do you mean the low pressure fuel pump? If so, there was / is a recall on that pump. I don't think that there is anything called a "low pressure injector".

no, the low pressure fuel injectors. I'll get the parts number to make it easier

Glad they found your issue and fixed! Mine seems to do the opposite unfortunately, and is so intermittent that I haven't been forced to take it in anywhere.

Ok, the "low pressure" part confused me. Most just call them fuel injectors. So is he saying that you need all six fuel injectors replaced?

Theres 12 fuel injectors. 6 port (low pressure) and 6 DI (high pressure).

You learn something every day, thanks. But is the OPs issue common? This is the first time I recall hearing about a low pressure injector failure and the resulting symptom. Maybe I should quit reading oil threads and expand my horizons.

I did see a couple post about this issue because I was doing a search but never saw any solution. That's why I did the post

The port injectors only need to overcome atmospheric pressure whereas the direct injectors need to overcome cylinder pressure which is much higher than atmospheric.

EDIT: maybe I should have started with saying that the port injectors are in the intake port and the direct injectors are in the cylinder.

More common than you'd think. I have a similar issue, and believe it to be fuel related; however, mine has historically been completely random, no preference of hot or cold start.
This is probably a stupid question, sorry.. Because there are 2 types of injectors, would it be plausible that a truck could run completely fine, yet have trouble cranking sometimes due to one of those types of injectors? I imagine an issue with lost pressure, but once pressure is achieved, it has no issue maintaining it? Is this even plausible? I ruled out battery very quickly, even got a new one after doubting it, never have misfires, never have rough idle, never anything weird while driving that I've observed (haven't seen live fuel data and wouldn't know how to interpret it anyway), but just stumbles to crank sometimes.

Thanks for the honesty! I've had a hard time convincing myself whether I have a fuel pump or injector issue, simply because it only presents as an intermittent hard start. No issues once cranked, and has never NOT cranked after a 2nd/3rd attempt (I assume after building some pressure, but who knows). I'd think that a failing injector or pump would present itself more clearly during driving, presenting a lack of fuel and all, but I know nothing about fuel systems, so maybe thats not a reasonable thought :notsure: Thanks anyways! Hopefully someone else can chime in; I've revived too many dead threads surrounding the issue, so was glad to see this one start lol.

Mine had no issues while running either but whenever I was coming home for lunch, when I tried to start it back after 30-45 minutes it wouldn't start but kept on cranking. I think the reason why there's no other symptoms is that it keeps dripping after the engine is shut down but they still do their normal work when it's running

I put that part number into:
23209-39325 Genuine Toyota INJECTOR Set, Fuel
and came up with $150 for SIX injectors. Is that correct? Am I reading that correctly? If so, that is one of the most reasonable prices I have seen from Toyota.

OPPS, the fitment of that part number does not cover the Tacoma according to that site.

That is one injector. The way they use SET is a little misleading. A set is a injector with seals. If you look further down in the description it says 6 required for that application.
