Having some problems with seat belt latching on my new-to-me '98 Tacoma ext cab 4x4. I searched a bit and some threads had some vague ideas, and were older, so I thought I'd check in and see what folks are doing for new seat belt buckles, also called latches or receptacles. As you can see the PO installed some '96 seats and left the '96 latches on the seats he installed.

I found this video that nicely explains whats inside this generation of latches...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RPzkQwNlBBQ&t=228s

Called Toyota and the latches are not available. I have 4runners at my local picknpull but I think they assembly is different in how it bolts to the seat? Not sure. But I was thinking of taking mine apart like in the video and using a 4runner latch for it's guts.

Anyone attempted this? Or have a better idea?

Try googling for "1998 Tacoma Seat Belts". Should be a lotta good tips there.

Copy that. Appreciate the reply. It seems there’s a lot of variance with bench / reg vs ext cab, and maybe 99-2004 diffeeence from early which is what I guess I was hoping to get a definitive answer on. I was able to get some replacement buckles (Toyota) on eBay and they will arrive soon. So that should fix my problem for now I hope. The last Tacoma I had prior to last week was a brand new 03 Prerunner and now I have a 98 with 32500 miles. Hahah. So. Stuffs worn a bit more than I remember .
