Anyone know of a good writeup for the rear ABS wiring replacement and/or have success splicing in new wiring? And/or maybe first confirm this is the ABS wire?

This is a first for me ... I'm not in town, but but looking at these pics it sure appears that someone simply cut the wire -- It's been sitting outside and my son got in it today and got an immediate C0210 code and found this. Both sides are cut. Perhaps I can splice in some new wires ... but WTF?
    upload_2025-2-5_16-46-48.png

it is also strange b/c it looks like there is fluid around the plug but everything else looks clean?

I’d go to rock auto and order up some new ones, but it can be spliced.. their is an oring on the sensors tho.

I would be more concerned that they probably thought they were cutting brake lines. Any angry neighbors?

I have seen people splice ABS wires with solder and heat shrink with success but I have never tried it.

The truck is in Cresred Butte so no shortage of snow. I’ll see when I’m back if the neighbor has a door camera. Tire has been cut or at least has a puncture. 2 lines cut. Don’t even know enough people there for anyone to be mad … so weird. I’ll probably go the splice route assuming it looks OK and replace the lines when it warms up.

Some people just vandalize because they don't like it if you park on the street. People are crazy

Mine have been soldered and heat shrank for 13 years. They can be spliced no problem.

I'm more worried that the axle bearing seal is shot and you have leaked gear oil into the rear brakes and tone ring, thus staining the speed sensor port with oil.

Pull your wheel and see if the brakes are coated with oil and report back.

Was the truck towed recently, wrecker operators use "J" hooks to attach to the rear axle.

I've had to repair 2 Toyotas because of this technique.

Folks in Colorado "love" Texans like Montanans love Californians, but to attempt to cut a person's brake lines is asinine (and criminal, literally)

The abs wire is less than 10 minutes to replace. Just buy a new one and put it on.
    And get Colorado plates.

Thanks all - I'll write again when I get back up there and see it for myself in 4-5 days.

Will do likely on Monday. I get back up there late this weekend. I too am a bit more worried about this. I changed the diff fluid in October before winter and will check the level and analyze this further.

Last tows were July and August (to swap in another engine - long story) over 2500 miles ago so while I wish that was it I doubt it.

The truck lives is in CO and has CO plates -- I'll be living up there later this summer. I'm ordering the new lines this morning.

    1. why does it look like someone tried to cut your brake lines and instead, cut ABS wires

    2. that fluid is very possibly a leak beginning to start at the rear axle seals, which may also have worn bearings that can also cause that.

    3. on cars and general, an ABS wheel speed sensor comes with wire at approximately the length from your hand to your elbow, and are not that expensive.
I really hope this is the case here. That you can find a decent one for a decent price, that simply plugs right in somewhere higher up along the circuit for a straightforward replacement. Seeing as it is supposed to be a replaceable part by design (they go bad)

I was finally able to get under the truck this morning and I'm feeling like the gods have been against me this week.
The passenger ABS wire certainly looks snipped to me -- very clean cut

    upload_2025-2-8_8-41-59.png

and unfortunately on the DS they clipped my extended brake line. These lines look pretty tough and were not so easy to cut ...
    upload_2025-2-8_8-42-41.png

and there is a cut in the sidewall of the DS rear tire. I'm going to glue tread that since I haven't used it yet to see how it holds but I do have new tires on order so at least the timing on that one isn't terrible.

Ring cam getting put up this week

That's your parking brake line. It doesn't have fluid in it.

Just a thought here…. I had a very similar situation with my Yukon years ago. (ABS wires cut on each side and damaged brake lines both sides) the culprit… backing into a crusty/icy snow bank when turning around at trailhead. Lines got pinched/crushed between crusty/icy snow and the axle. Marks were similar to yours. It looks like the lines are damaged right near the square edge of spring pad on axle.
