Positioning the Track Runners on the Seat Tracks

Each of the two tracks on the seats of my truck have 19 notches in them. Pulling the seat positioning lever up retracts two teeth from the each of the tracks allowing one to move the seat forward and back. Releasing the lever allows the teeth to lock into the track. See the photo below:

When I removed one of the seats, like an idiot , I removed the large spring (under the seat and not seen in the photo) and then accidentally moved the positioning lever up and thereby freeing both track runners to relocate to a notch other than where they should be. I'm sure that the track runners (i.e. the thing with to teeth that slides along the track) were offset before I moved them, but I don't know by how much, nor do I remember which notches they are supposed to be in.

My question is, how far from the front end of each track is each of the runners supposed to be positioned? (BTW this is for the passenger seat.)

See if any of this helps.

Thank you for posting that. It helps, somewhat. Typical instructions from an engineer who's too pressed for time to write better instructions.
I'll have to chew on what you sent me for awhile. Prolly when I take the passenger seat out again, which will be sometime next week.

The reason for all the fuss was that I wanted to swap the passenger seat cushion (not used at all in the last 28 years) with the driver seat cushion. When I removed the passenger seat, I had problems getting the seat cushion off - it just wouldn't pull out. In the process, I noticed that the seat back was pretty loose. So when I pulled the recliner lever to take a closer look, all of a sudden there was this big spro-o-o-ng! The seat back got dorked and jumped all the way forward, the left side more than the right side.

    :censored:  :censored:

I found that one of the two bolts connecting the right seat back to the seat frame was completely out and the other bolt was holding on by only a couple of threads. And the large 1/2-inch yellow bar that goes across the lower back of the seat had come away from the support and was just wobbling around. I guess all my rough wash-board off-roading took its toll.

In getting the seat pad out I had removed the track equalizer wire and the forward/reverse retractor spring and as a result, the two tracks became unsynchronized. It was a good learning experience though.
