Truck stuck in neutral

Went to change my 4wd shifter. Unbolted it and pulled it out and put new one in and truck is stuck in neutral. Any ideas? Plastic piece is gone on bottom of shifter.

Will it work without the bushing?

 

Two different type of shifters. One has that plastic piece one does not and if memory is working right, it's specific meaning you can't just pop that plastic piece off and it'll work as they are two different shapes.

Also, here is a good vid on putting it back correctly. Can be a pain in the ass. This video is of a tcase shifter without the plastic piece.

EDIT: hopefully the transfer case didn't eat that plastic piece. lol
If it did and it was originally on the shifter, then its going to need it. I wouldn't want it floating about the tcase either.

The white seat was the one for my 99 top shift t case. Shifting is sloppy without it.

 

Does this look right for the 4wd shifter to go into.

 

It looks right. It looks different than my j shift setup. Is yours a push button shifter? Like Area51 says, the push button shifter is different than a j shifter. They both have seats. Take a look around 41 minutes into this video to see how to replace the seat.

Its a push button. Its something in transfer case.

 

Timmy’s video shows the components of the push button assembly and how to reinstall shifter. The push button shifter needs the plastic bushing. The Area51 video shows a j shifter and doesn’t apply to you.

What led you to purchasing a new shifter? Any success on reassembly?
