Hey just have to get this out and off my head to see what y'all (my fellow Tacoma owners and the aged wisdom’s) think? Has anybody on here just got a feeling of hmmm, I don’t think they did??? I had my free complimentary oil change done on my 23 Tacoma with 20k exactly on the odo on tuesday. I have not drove it since because I have a backup truck/ and I had just washed the Tacoma lol). I’m starting to believe they didn’t change my canister oil filter on her. I got under there and I do believe they drained the oil in the oil pan, cause I wipe off excess oil/residue on the head of the oil pan bolt. The skid pan under the filter housing, there were no marks, no rubs, nothing around the bolt holes. So saying as in there’s road film that’s covering the skid plate, it should show the slightest indication marks right, whether holding the tray to take off or around the bolt holes taking it off as well would show something on it right? Nothing no marks on the road film. Then last night again I got back under there 2nd guessing myself, like surely not and the canister has like a haze on it when I shined a led flashlight on it. I took my finger and rubbed the edge and it made a mark where I touched it again showing it wasn’t apparently touched?? I myself would think there would be indications to show it was removed and so forth cleaned afterwards that’s just me. Then I go to check the oil stick and it’s showing overfilled past the top dot, (I’m checking it again today with the whole check after 5 min cold and when I warm it up will update later) but what do yall think? Do you think I am over reacting to what I see? Now if I go back to the dealership and present this situation then I’ve have created a negative atmosphere with the dealership. This dealership is near me about 15-20 min away. So what would yall do? I’m not trying to start up anything or get a whole drama fest goin…it’s just, I got indication/feelings you know…… feel free to chime in and has this happened to anyone else and what did you do?

Well after reading many posts her YES.
How about the post where they forgot to put in new oil, light went off before he got out of the parking lot.
    Do my own oil changes.

As far as your question they or you can remove the filter and see if it is new. You will only loose the oil in the filter housing but is a good chance they did not replace it, IMO

If you are confident they changed the oil just go buy a filter and change it yourself.
It should only take about 15 minutes and you won't lose much oil.

I would never under any circumstance let the dealer do anything to my vehicle unless
it is a safety recall issue.

You trust em, or you don't.

It sounds like you don't. You would be a good candidate for DIY.

As from others. I would NEVER let anyone do work on my vehicles unless it was a mandatory warranty item. Tons of dealership vids on the tube of noob oil slingers screwing up. No thanks

Yeah guys I’m agreeing with what your saying, well I was already a diy guy beforehand I just wanted to give the dealership the benefit of the doubt yknow. So while I got everyone on here helping me out on this post, what 0w-20 oil should I go with (while I’m thinking what oil does Toyota put in your yota) what’s everybody’s fav semi-, full syn, conventional ….etc???

OP probably won't ever become a great mechanic, but he has a promising future as a CSI detective. :)

OP, learn to do it yourself or learn to trust those who do it for you. Otherwise you will drown yourself in a cesspool of paranoia!

Well dealer i bought my truck from said they did oil change and tire rotation, cant confirm if they did or didnt do the oil change and they did rotate tires but what they did not do was torque the lug nuts, 5 of six on the rear passenger were able to be tightened by hand with a socket and at least two nuts on the other three wheels

So they said they did a oil change, when? buy the looks of the oil on the dip stick and blue towel to me that looks like it was not very recent! Mobile 1 after oil change is very hard to see on the dip stick. When i do a oil change my dip stick never shows it like that.

Find a good shop you trust, I got shafted by my local dealer twice. Hated the feeling of not knowing if something was done/not done, they overtorqued my wheel nuts and oil filter housing. I posted on the relevant section in this forum and within a day was recommended two good independant shops that I'm happy to support.

gave me a headache reading but
    maybe they cleaned the canister?
crying if a sloppy job now crying if a clean job
think positive .....there is no evidence they didn't do it
you seem like you will be changing your oil every 3k anyway so it wont matter if its the same filter
    start living

ps ... toyota owns that motor for 36k and they will do it right

if you think a dealership screwed up something as simple as an oil change, why would you ever go back to them again?

cut your losses. You've already done more work investigating their work than it would've been just to do it yourself.
