When I first purchased the Tacoma, the trailer brakes lights worked fine. Now for some reason, the trailer brakes lights will not work. It is not the trailer... because I have now towed 4 different trailers with the Tacoma, two with the five pin connector and two with the seven pin connector... No trailer brake lights. Is there a specific fuse for the trailer brakes and if so, where exactly is it located. Thanks

Never mind... I found the problem. It was the main 25 amp "Towing" fuse in the panel under the hood. :)

Same problem. There were no blown fuses, checked towing fuse (25a) in the engine bay, and the 7.5 in the cab, too. Changed the towing relay and the 40a battery charger fuse (it was blown)—still no brake lights or turn signals. Running lights and trailer brakes work fine. I tried with two different trailers (7-pin) and a 5-pin tester.

The trailer brake and turn signals are controlled by the Combination Meter (Instrument Cluster), unfortunately it's not uncommon for a short on a trailer to blow the circuit in the meter. Poor engineering on Toyota's part but do check wiring integrity before condemning the Meter.

Also a PSA to anyone with a 3rd gen I would highly recommend replacing the TOWING Fuse (25A) with a 15 amp or less fuse to hopefully protect the circuit in the Meter, it's not uncommon for a trailer short to take out the vehicle turn signal drivers in the Meter as well. You want the fuse to blow before the drivers in the Meter fry.
