Please help....my 2002 Tacoma prerunner v6 hesitates on acceleration and also has a random backfire..... brought it to a mechanic and since it doesn't have a code they can't fix it..... what can it be?

I had issues with lag on acceleration and overall sluggishness while opening up the throttle on my 96 4runner (3.4l v6), no codes either. I removed the MAF sensor and cleaned it and it solved the issue. Super easy to do and rule out if nothing else, just make sure to use MAF cleaner specifically.

The backfiring might point to a different issue though, when was your last tune up/spark plug replacement
