I’ve got a 2002 and recently learned of the lower ball joint recall, my dealer is saying they already did the work and I’m saying that I’ve never heard of a recall and never had the truck at the dealership on top of that their claiming I brought it in for a smog test and I’m claiming I wouldn’t ever take it to a dealership for a test like that . All this brings me to today where I receive an email saying that if I agree to pay $322 the dealership will check to see if the ball joints have a number showing that they have been replaced and if not they will refund my money. I’m not trusting this dealership as I know I’ve never had the truck there before . My question is there really a number on the ball joints ? Thank you .

Are 1st gens in the Toyota system? You can go on the Toyota website and drop in your vin and, if it's in there, would show what work Toyota has done on the rig. Should also show open recalls.

How long have you owned the vehicle, could this might of been done under previous ownership?

Fun fact - you can create an account on Toyotas website, enter your vin, then see all the history of the vehicle dating back to original build date, etc.

My first step would be to check that out - https://www.toyota.com/owners/register and see if your vehicle had the service done, what open recalls are on the vehicle and if there still applicable.

So you are the original owner, thus knowing the full history?

As an original owner of a 2011... even in that short time I forgot about stuff that shows on my Toyota Owners history, lol.

Thank you all for the response , I owned the truck in 2005 when they claim that I brought it in for recall work and they claim that I brought it in in 2008 for a smog test .. I claim that I’ve never heard of the recall for LBJ never was notified of any recall and certainly would not have had a smog test done at a dealership.. when I first brought in my vin number to dealership they claimed that I had the work done but had no history of me ever bringing the truck in for anything my name was not in their computer history? I think that they filed a claim to Toyota to get paid for the work being done and are now covering their tracks . I don’t want to pay over $300 for them to tell me that they already did the LBJ and that’s why I’m asking if there really is a number or a way to tell if they’ve been done ? I’m thinking they will just say that after checking that they did recall work and I’m just out the money.. wouldn’t it be easy to put in a vin number and miss it by one number and it would appear to be my truck when it really was somebody else’s .

Did you register yet on the toyota owners website to check what's in there?
