I recently purchased a 2012 Regular Cab 4x4 AT, with 118,000 miles. I didn’t realize the prevalence of rust with these trucks until I started reading this forum. I took some pictures of some rusty areas under the truck and noticed this area (I think it’s the front differential? Please feel feee to correct my ignorance). I know it’s hard to see based on the pictures but anything look immediately concerning? IMG_4730.jpg IMG_4736.jpg IMG_4733.jpg IMG_4729.jpg IMG_4728.jpg

Looks pretty good from what little can be seen in the pics. The frame is your main concern, not the "heavy" metal components, i.e. Diffs etc. Post a pic of the frame up near the catalytic converter. That's a typical bad spot if you have an issue.

That looks like nothing to worry about.
that's just surface rust, and barely any at that.
How are the frame rails? Particurally where the frame goes from being a C-channel to fully boxed in? ( close to the front )

Also, why does your oil drain plug look "juicy"? Giver a wipe so you can tell if she's leaking or not.

I think you are looking in the wrong places.
    It's the FRAME that rust.

You will literally need to crawl under the truck and inspect the outside (facing you) and the inside (center looking out).
Pay close attention to the cab mounts, the control arm mounts, and the inside of the frame right under the A-pillars.
Also the area of the frame where goes from the PASSENGER side leaf spring mount, and up over the wheel. (next to the exhaust).

    But mostly....the WHOLE frame.
