Howdy ya’ll. Long time reader, first time poster.

Anywho, on my way home from work last night the good ol taco developed a significant issue. That issue being a crescendo of steering and wobble, meaning that once it begins it will increase until I’m stopped or (hear me out) make a sharp left turn. Doesn’t matter what speed, and it came on all of a sudden without significant noise.

Note: my CV’s are pretty much nuked. This truck has consistent cv issues. Haven’t gave em a yank yet (it’s -5 F right now) to see their state, but could this be causing the issue? My other suspect is loose lug nuts, but by hand everything seems in order. Power steering fluid was low as well, but issue persisted after it was topped off.

So, end of story, is this something one of you has experienced? Is there a checklist of sorts I can look at? I always do my own work and would dive into this if we weren’t in an attic freeze, looking to save some time here. Cheers!

Welcome to Tacoma World. Death wobble on a Tacoma isn't very common far as I know. I'd look closely at your steering rack and the mounting bolts/bushings as those are sometimes known to go bye bye, that would be my guess. You could check your steering intermediate shaft too as those are known failure points but I'm still leaning to the rack bolts/bushings. Not sure how many miles but if you haven't done a power steering fluid flush lately (or ever) wouldn't be a bad idea.

You mention consistent CV issues - can you explain more? Why are those a consistent problem? Got some kind of huge lift going on? What is your current setup on suspension?

Had something that sounds similar to what you experienced in a minivan once. I know, completely different but it too, was IFS. It turned out to be a bad axle shaft.
It had that van wobbling from side to side. I don't remember all of the details but sounds similar.
