    ChatGPT suggested these:

If you’re new to deer hunting with a crossbow, you’ll want one that balances power, accuracy, and ease of use. Here are a few solid beginner options:

    1. Barnett Whitetail Hunter STR

    • Speed: ~375 FPS

    • Draw Weight: 187 lbs

    • Pros: Lightweight, affordable, comes ready to shoot with a scope and bolts

    • Cons: Slightly noisy, but can be dampened

    2. CenterPoint Sniper 370

    • Speed: ~370 FPS

    • Draw Weight: 185 lbs

    • Pros: Adjustable stock, good accuracy, budget-friendly

    • Cons: Heavier than some models

    3. Killer Instinct Ripper 415

    • Speed: ~415 FPS

    • Draw Weight: 200 lbs

    • Pros: High speed for the price, adjustable stock, good trigger

    • Cons: Higher draw weight can make cocking harder

    4. Wicked Ridge Rampage 360

    • Speed: ~360 FPS

    • Draw Weight: 175 lbs

    • Pros: Made by TenPoint (quality brand), comes with ACUdraw cocking system for easy use

    • Cons: Slightly lower speed than others

    5. Bear X Intense CD

    • Speed: ~400 FPS

    • Draw Weight: 185 lbs

    • Pros: Compact design, great for tree stands or blinds, fast for the price

    • Cons: Included scope isn’t the best

Key Features to Look for in a Beginner Crossbow:

    • Speed (FPS): 300+ FPS is good for deer; 350+ FPS gives better range and power.

    • Draw Weight: 150-200 lbs (too high can be difficult to cock without a crank).

    • Ease of Cocking: Look for cranking devices or rope cockers to make it easier.

    • Included Accessories: Some crossbows come as a package (scope, bolts, quiver, etc.).

    • Durability & Weight: Lighter crossbows are easier to carry but may have more recoil.

If you’re on a budget, the Barnett Whitetail Hunter STR or CenterPoint Sniper 370 are great starters. If you want more power and are willing to spend a little more, the Killer Instinct Ripper 415 is a solid choice.

Any of the ones mentioned above are capable of killing a deer. I would suggest that you go online and research some of the reviews for different manufacturers. Several companies have had numerous issues with their crossbows. I personally own a Ravin and a Ten Point and both companies have had their share of issues. Based on what I know now after talking to local bow shops and the people who work on and repair them, if I was to buy a new one today it would be a Mission or Excalibur. The guys tell me that they very seldom see those 2 brands coming in for repairs.

    No kidding!:spending:

Then he has to decide recurve or compound. Both have advantages and disadvantages.
Look used as well as people are always getting newer.

    I have a Tenpoint Venom that's 10 years old.
It was pricy back then. So far it has performed flawlessly. Cables are holding up well.
I only replaced the Accudraw string this past Fall as it was starting to fray..

Heavy (more so with a monopod attached) (need it now with my crappy shoulders), clunky, and noisy, but they kill well.

The wife has a Excalibur Assassin 360 and I switched to a Mission Sub1 lite this year. I would recommend either. Watch the weight of bolt and broadheads you use. Your going to want to go heavier than they call for to save yourself problems with the limbs. I’d be careful buying anything used because of the lifetime warranty deal.

Bought a Ravin R15 used (from Michigan) worked flawlessly for several years until the strap ripped when cocking it. Was covered under warranty and cost me ~ $75 shipping to mfg. both ways. Spent $1500 on it and it shot wicked fast (could never see the bolt in flight!!). Gave it to my son since I quit bow hunting after crippling one (never found it) 2 years ago.

Would I buy another one??? YES!!!

Wish I could still use my compound bow - Mathews DXT - but torn rotator cuff AND biceps stopped that fun hunting!!!

Well please extrapolate on this, and tell us what pistol you purchased. I'm going to guess a Wilson Combat, because I don't see you buying a cheap pistol. And for a classic TW response.
