TPMS light stays on no matter the actual tire pressure

light on instrument panel stays on all the time no matter what pressure the tires psi is ,
my inside driver's door jamb sticker says all tires at 30 psi cold and that's what they are now ,, they might be a half pound or even 1 psi under or Iower,, is this sensor so sensitive that all 4 tires have to be exactly 30.0 psi ?

 

Does it flash for a few seconds and then remain on or is it just on?

 

Toyota TPMS can read really low, my gauge shows 33psi and they will read 30psi on the TPMS computer.

To eliminate error, set them all to 35psi and see if it clears.

As DM93 mentions, the state of the light matters as well.

 

Might needs to check for TPMS operating condition.

 

I'm not sure if I'm in the right place , I'm new here this is my first rodeo but this is in response to Dm93 does it flash for a few seconds or just come on ? it flashs for a few seconds then comes on

 

Flashing TPMS light typically means there is an issue with one or more of the sensors, likely a dead sensor.
TPMS sensors on average last around 8-10 years so if they are original it's not surprising one or more have died, most tire shops should have the tooling to test the sensors and program new ones if you choose. Many tire shops sell sensors although some are overpriced, you can buy the sensors yourself from rock auto some tire shops will install and program them for free when you buy new tires from them so it may be worth waiting until you need new tires.

 

Toyota used to have a sensor in the spare, but took it out at some point - I don't remember the year of the cut off. I know that my 2007 Taco has one, and the spare has to be inflated to spec with all the others to satisfy the TPMS system. Might be something to look into...

Just take it to the local tire shop since you seem to be clueless. They'll fix you right up.

2009. Rumor has it that it occured mid year, so some do, some don't. Cannot verify never having had an '09

I'm thinking 07 or 08 was the last year they were in the spare. There is one in my 07.

You most likely have one or more bad sensors based on your trucks age. They run $40-$60 for a 4-pack on Amazon. That's less than the cost of a tank of gas every 7-10 years.

I don't wait for mine to die. I replace them every other time I buy new tires. That works out to once every 6-7 years. They might last for a 3rd set of tires but it's a lot easier and cheaper to replace them at the same time you buy new tires. No additional charge at that time. If they install new sensors and you're not buying new tires it's $10-$15 each.
