I owned a one owner 2015 taco the previous owner lived in Santa Monica and even then the entire front end including ucas were pretty rusted the front cross member was pretty pitted

my buddy is looking for a second gen tundra so I’ve been helping him look and we found one he really likes but unfortunately one owner all maintenance records just like my Tacoma but frame is rusty because the owner lived by the beach it’s whole life

I’ve seen plenty of San Diego and Huntington Beach rigs all one owner and their whole lives were spent parked by the beach and some of them were a few miles inland but that salty air carries

so just because you live in SoCal doesn’t mean you’re safe from rust especially if you live near the coast your frame will rust in a few years as well as an exposed body surfaces

I was just in big bear on Monday when it snowed and my rig was coated in salt and brine (my buddy is a cal trans superintendent who verified that they spray both) so if you guys want to keep your rig forever I’d do preventative salt maintenance

    yup, 100%....
Not just toyota due to theyre known for rusted out frames....
Been a ford tech in San Diego, east county inland for 32 years...
Its obvious when I have to work on a ride where the customer is coastal...
I would not want to be a car mechanic in areas where they get snow, absolute shit boxes....

I live in GA, rust isn't a problem here, but I have family in Florida. While it may not be as bad as the NE rust is a concern, even 50 miles inland.

I live on the coast in south carolina. Not a waterfront house, but I have salt water within a mile in 3 of the 4 directions. Everything rusts so much faster here than It ever did when I lived in an area that salted the roads in the winter.

That being said, It's completely manageable, but it does have to be actively managed.

    Respectfully...........
if they salt the roads due to snow, its a problem, regardless of your opinion / mindset....
They dont have special rust prevention salt in GA...
It's not just the frame, all the cast metal steel parts, exhaust, drive shafts, engine mounts, brackets, suspension, brake components, axles shafts & cv's, etc....

    Agree.
I use salt away occasionally when highways is salting and brining the roads.
een testing CRC Heavy Duty Corrosion Inhibitor for about 5 yrs and find it's one of the better rated and performing products out there for coating your frame, suspension and chassis components while allowing easy future disassembly if required.
The CRC dries well, doesn't attract dust bad, doesn't fly off or wash off easily, and seals/prevents corrosion very well.

I’ve been happy with fluid film and woolwax if I lived in the Midwest or anywhere it snows and they salt the roads I’d probably use crc
