My guess would be the clutch disc is in backwards or it is somehow stuck on the spline and is not moving. Also a chance you don't have the right parts. Those pressure plates look very different.
Good luck with the repairs. Doing a big job like that and have something go wrong sucks a**.

My buddy at work installed a flex plate (flywheel) backwards once on a 80 series land cruiser. Boy was he pissed when he went to start it, and the starter just kept spinning without touching the flex plate. Had to rip it all apart again. It happens OP, hope you find the issue.

UPDATE: SOLVED: Yes...yes it was in reversed. Yes it did come out faster the second time as I had already broken and replaced all the bolts that were problematic. Flipped it and reinstalled (after much sailor mechanic cussing). Stepped on the clutch and it works perfect. So note to all that come after me, the taller side of the clutch plate goes toward the pressure plate inside the recess, or said another way, toward the back of the vehicle. Thank you, thank you. Ill see myself out. I need a beer. BTW thanks to all who weighed in with their expertise.
