Waterfowl Hunting Thread - quack, quack, boom

How’s everyone’s season going? It’s been rough here in California.

 

I too live in N California and agree it’s been slow. I haven’t been able to make it out much but the days I’ve been out have been blue bird days and few birds. Here’s a pic of my last time out in December. Blue bird day, few ducks. Went pheasant hunting after the lousy morning and got a couple roosters.

 

I have not hunted in years, opening day of Dove season was my favorite day of the year, better than Christmas. Never hunted waterfowl. However, a few days ago, I was traveling between Kutztown and Breinigsville on Pennsylvania highway 222 and there were literally thousands of Snow Geese feeding in the harvested corn fields on the north side of the highway. Beautiful sight.

 

Been pretty slow down here as well. Had some ok days and some really tough ones. Buddy of mine did shoot a banded cinnamon hen this past weekend. 2nd year hunting ducks.

 

Yeah seems to be the trend. I hunted Sutter refuge on Sunday. #1 ressy. We shot 7 birds total for 3 hunters. Which was a huge improvement over the 2 hunt day prior that had a .3 bird average. It’s been tough finding the motivation to actually keep going out. But knowing there’s only a couple weeks left so I keep doing it lol

 

It ain’t much but I managed a limit of woodies this weekend.

 

Had the best weekend so far this season. 2 man limit on Saturday and just short 1 of a 2 man on Sunday. (I ran out of shells and left lol)

 

Central Arkansas here, just started hunting last season (2022-2023). Both Toyotas get me to the spots just fine, I just prefer the 4R cause of the heated seats .
Coming up on the last week of this season, it's been a rough year low water and high temps for most of the season.

 

I went out Saturday and hunting from shoot light to shoot light and got 2. Was so frustrated that I canceled my Sunday trip lol Wednesdays the last day. I’ve already started cleaning stuff up, said I wasn’t gonna go but I got that little devil on my shoulder telling me to go lol

 

Fried wood duck breast, leg/thigh (and venison cube steak) Sunday lunch.

 

How did everyone's season go? Ours was one of the slowest I've seen in 20 years. Birds finally started showing up mid-January.
