Trailhunter & TRD skid plate damage

Has anyone that has either of these skid plates actually had a chance to bash it on some rocks?

Both of those skids look really neat, I'm just curious how they hold up to being used.

If you did bash it, did it show any damage? Do you have any pics?

Debating buying one of these vs a CBI or some other traditional skid manufacturer. And between the silver powder coat and intricate stamping of the Yota stuff, I'm a little concerned.

I had an SOS Concepts 3/16 steel plate on my 2nd gen and thoroughly bashed it many times and it showed no damage what so ever, just scratches that I'd spray over with black rusty metal primer

 

I haven’t had a chance to bash on mine yet but I doubt they will take any serious beating..the one on my trailhunter is not that thick and sure most aftermarket ones would be a better fit for the ones doing serious rock crawling

 

Pro skid plate is aluminum, TH is steel. TH is I believe 6lb heavier but also may be slightly longer, so not very thick. Unless you are hard core the aluminum should be good enough. Plus it won't rust. Of course, you'll have to pay more to get the skid plate with three red letters.

 

I’m pretty sure any factory skid is gonna crumble like a pull tab… Especially on these new Toyotas. The pro or TH may be thicker but they are not as thick as aftermarket options

 

Yes!

TRD plate is 1/4" aluminum which is what most aftermarket aluminum plates are, but the trailhunter plate is 1/8" and most aftermarket steel plates are 3/16".

This is why I was asking if anyone had actually bashed one on some rocks.

If you really, really wheel you would be in a different vehicle. You aren't going up chocolate thunder with these. Get whatever cranks your tractor. It will be OK.

 

I've got a Trailhunter skid plate. It's a beast. I was going to cut out a hole to access my Fumoto valve, but the steel is hardened.

I'll be challenged to ding it.
