Just got a 2019 Tacoma and have a semi stupid question for bed step owners. I would like to get one as I have a a bad left knee that makes it difficult and painful to step up on. I have been looking at every Tacoma I see in parking lots to see if it has a bed step so I could try it out (so naturally I haven't seen one). In looking at the pictures it looks like it would be difficult to go up with my right leg first because this is what I need to do. I picture stepping up with my right and then having to swing my left leg over instead of being able to just step in. I'm sure it must work either but would like to confirm from the crappy left knee club. Thank you

Don't have one, but free bump here just to say I've only ever seen them installed on the driver's side, so I'd also assume your understanding would be pretty accurate. Hopefully others can chime in to confirm.

I’ve only seen them on the driver side as well, I think it’s designed that way so it doesn’t get too close with the exhaust (maybe I remember incorrectly).

my left knee hasn’t been the best, so what I’ve been doing is using the canopy, or could use the bed sides to help climb up.

Does anyone know what the bed step weigh rating is? Tried looking, but could not find it listed online anywhere.

The bed step is large enough that both feet can fit on. So you can get up with right foot and lift up and put left on. They only make ones that fit on drivers side. By the way, I wouldn't be trying one out on a strangers truck in a parking lot. At the very least it would be rude and maybe even trespassing. If the owner saw you doing it they may not take too kindly to it.

I have one and go up with the right leg. Coming down is a different story I jump down. It's a useful tool as you get older or are a friend of gravity. Go to a larger toyota dealer near you if they have a large inventory of used tacomas one is bound to have a step on it.

You’ve been looking in parking lots to stand on some random strangers truck?

You could use either leg to step up. Step is pretty large and allows you to move left or right. Especially if the tailgate is up, your second step is the bumper.

Not sketchy at all. I've been using it for 2 years without one issue. I have bad knees (primarily left) and the last thing I need is to slip off while trying to get in the bed.

Thank everyone for their replies. Evidently I should have explained myself further by saying if I noticed one I would wait and ask the owner if they would mind if I tried it. I did not realize both feet would fit on it.

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
Yup my truck comes with it and you can only have it on the driver’s side. It would have interfered with the exhaust if it’s on the passenger side.

Yup you can fit both feet on it. I’ve done that many times.
