In the process of changing out seals. Is this deep enough? I know flush with the head is what's recommended but I can't seem to push them in deeper. I used pvc and a rubber mallet and seem to have bottomed out. Its like a couple of fingernails outside the head if that makes any sense.

If it bottomed out that’s as far as it can go. You grease the lip?

Yeah. I put on fresh oil on the lip of the seal and on the cam side.

It's good to state what engine your referring to when you have questions it helps alot. Here is a Pic of the 3.4l with one original cam seal on the passenger side still in. And one removed. To better help you tell what it looked like from factory.

My bad. It's the 3.4. I'm going to try a heavier hammer and try to give it that last nudge but if it doesn't go I'll call it a day. I'm certain it's fine just wanted some reassurance.
