As the title says. If it does do a ounce of help in MPG or handling, even that tiny bit wouldn't be effective if a person's tires stuck out close to 3" past it, and you had a 2" lift?

I permanently removed mine, due to installing the CURT Mfg front receiver.
    No great loss.

Correct. Making your truck look dorky improves mpgs.

Do not lift and increase wheel offset and tire size if your concerned about mpg.

I had no notable difference when mine was removed.

My take is if it made no difference(mpg, safety, noise, etc...), Toyota would omit it to save $$$. I don't have a controlled environment or wind tunnel to prove otherwise.
Think about how many times they do things to save a penny on the truck.

However, it was the first thing I removed. Looks over function.

Some hyper milers on here have claim it does help in certain circumstances with a totally stock truck. However, once you alter anything on a stock Tacoma YMMV.

Took it off this afternoon. Couldn't tell any difference going 80 mph.

    Looks a lot better off.
