i recently noticed a problem with my 96 Tacoma where the clock is always on and the radio would not turn on at all. checked both fuses and pulled the headunit itself to take a look at the fuse on the back. When I plugged the radio back in it started working again, but it now will not turn on or off with the ignition, I have to manually turn it on or off when I want it playing. I used a test light while the ignition was off and noticed that both the ignition and battery wire were receiving constant power. I saw a thread somewhere that said this could be a bad resistor but couldn't find any more information.

Check your door switch, if i remember correctly, radio and headlights stays on with ignition off until the driver door is opened.

My O7, door jam switch connects to the dome light... the radio comes on when the truck is on or started up. Even radio turned off when truck is off.

My 3rd gen, is similar to my 2nd gen.

OP, You might want to do this which you can take a look at the diagram here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/keep-radio-on-after-turning-off-vehicle.679446/#post-23931095

Beep like the key is still in the ignition?
If yes, then maybe your ignition isn't turning off all the way. Possibly a bad ignition.
Follow the ignition plug and unplug it with the key in the "off" position, see if the radio and clock turns off. If it does, I would think the ignition switch is bad.

Let me get a better understanding of what you are saying/

Let's say, You turn the truck off with the radio ON, and then you turn the truck back on, the radio is now OFF?
