Does anyone know what the circled number means in the parts diagram?

    Backstory:
    I am doing front brakes.
The shim kit came with 2 different types of anti-squeel shims.
I am trying to figure out which one to use, the slotted or unslotted one.
The unslotted one has the *2 next to it with the text being (0509-). What does that mean?

    Thanks

    Pretty sure you use both.
    Slotted against the pad.
    Solid on top of slotted.

Been forever since I did mine.
And I didn’t go back with OEM hardware.

So I am not 100% sure.
    But I’m pretty sure.

I could not get the pads to fit in the caliper with the unslotted one on. Maybe its for older models?

Yes. Everything I ordered is from the dealer. Factory pads. Here is what the FSM shows:

Well, if a decision has to be made.
I’d rather the piston push on the solid shim.

The slotted are not going on…..

    But that’s just me…….

Did you squeeze the pistons all the way in on the caliper?

the unslotted shims were longer than the slotted ones, which made them not fit.
cutting them a tiny bit shorter on both ends made them fit perfectly.
so i ended up just cutting a bit off the edges of the unslotted shims and that made them fit into the caliper without issue with the slotted ones in front (touching the back of the pad)
still unsure why it didn't fit in beforehand
