what gremlins need to be worked out? the 4thgen is the cheapest it will ever be now... inflation and the regular rising of truck prices will make it more expensive for essentially the same truck..

There was bad paint in US-built 3G trucks also.
So what about a Mexico location over another is concerning?

Japan made vehicles can have problems too.. NO ONE is perfect these days. Pick a vehicle then move on. My truck is from Texas... no problem so far.

That's the reason vehicles come with warranty... and we have shops for that. You can NOT expect a vehicle last long without any maintenance.

A large group of consumers termed "late adopters" wait for 2nd or 3rd year for misc hiccups from major redesigns of many product (not just autos) to resolve before jumping on board. The design hiccups don't have to be major flaws, but routine minor things that are annoying enough. The opposite group are termed "early adopters."

OP expressed his personal concerns in post #1.

Those who waited not only spent years not enjoying their new gen trucks, but they also got a recall notice for 2023s

life is finite. Waiting 5 years because you’re scared of things that are fixed under warranty seems silly. A 10/100 bumper to bumper adds $1k to the price.

True, but people could have been waiting for any possible mark ups to subside 2020-2023. End result is the same, but around that time it could have been a possibility.

Was the 2023 recall for the seat belt anchors and didn't something on the rear axle need re welding as well?

Kind of a weird issues to have that late into production. Maybe some of the new machinery or what ever for the 4G was being used on the 3G?

Explain please. Is this a Toyota extended warranty or third party and is the $1k a fixed price or a deal you happened to get. I never take extended warranties at time of purchase because it's all fluff for the dealership and I've bought EWs just before the base warranty expires for far cheaper online than at TOP. But a 1K price is something I'd be interested in.

There are a few thread about it but here is one. Toyota warranty. Prices are in the thread. There are at least 3 dealers that sell at basically cost.

You can buy a factory extended warranty after purchase. There are a few specialists.

Agree! It just seems OP is in between. Getting a new Tacoma every 2 years means always under warranty and longevity doesn’t matter anyways, which made me assume he just didn't want to deal with potential time spent at dealerships.

Unless the OP’s friends with a dealer owner, getting trucks at cost, and trading in at high resale, that’s a huge cost.

Nah. Random defects can happen any time. Average Toyota defect rate is like 1.3 defects per vehicle within the first 3 months of use according to JD Power initial quality statistics, and that's industry leading.

    Mostly dust and dirt.
Combine inconsistent build quality, increasing use of cheap oparts and subpar engineering and yes I'd say Toyota is slipping.

My 2005 Yaris was fun, trouble free and economical. My 2015 Rav4 was perfect, smooth, quiet, trouble free, somewhat less economical, and had very capable AWD. My 2024 Tacoma Limited is f'ing awesome, quiet, comfortable, has so many conveniences (I'm old, this is my last new vehicle, I deserve conveniences :)), goes through snow like a champ, but somewhat less economical. Not slipping for me.

Toyota has been slipping together with Optima and Moog for the past 30/20/10/5 years (pick one)

These were exact nebulous complaints about the third gen truck in 2016

I wasn't in the market for one, but I seem to recall many of the same complaints of the new 2016 Tacoma. I especially remember complaints about a poor shifting tranny and low power. Contrast that with the prevailing opinion of the 2016 to 2023 Tacomas today as being the best generation ever.

The 4G is a heavy pig, 500-1000lbs heavier than a comparable 3G. That ate whatever fuel economy gains could have been had over the 3G with the turbo and hybrid powertrains. Payload increase is almost non-existent. Trims de-contented, like the TRD OR not coming with a power seat or power slider.
