I've replaced over a dozen racks on 1st gen Tacomas. Even when replacing brand new racks from the dealer, I recommend the energy suspension bushing kit. Tightens up the steering nicely. Easy to install for a mechanic.

Great to hear. Just ordered some energy suspension bushings for the LCA's and steering rack. I haven't headed out there yet to test em, but I figure they're 23 years old and it'll be good to take it all apart and put some new bushings in, and put in the bolts back in with some anti-seize. I saw a great hack using the bottle jack & a torch to get the old control arm bushings out, I am excited to give it a whirl.

The 60mph part stinks of wheel balance.

So I’m also thinking perhaps it could be caster angle? Mine have gone unchanged for 6/7 years now, since the bolts are seized. I figure a shopping cart has negative caster and goes crazy, maybe my truck is doing the same without enough caster. We’ll see soon after I install all my new bushings and I’ll let everyone know…

here are my numbers from my alignment they told me aver 3.5 + caster would be ok but truck vibrates I do have the JBA’s arms for high caster.

As an out of left field thought, check your bed and cab mounts.

Did you lift it during that period? If you trust the tire balance (some shops do better) I would look at the driveshafts. Center support perhaps. Duct tape an old cellphone so it can watch the driveshaft(s) and have it record. That can be interesting.

First lift was in 2018 all I did was swap out new 5100’s because I saw oil on the shaft body so figured I’ll just put new ones on she’s my DD city queen so I keep it up with maintenance and stuff . My money is on LBJ’s they are 8 years old .

I thought LBJ's once as well, but it didnt do anything for me. I replaced them and it didn't even make any sort of impact. I also made the mistake of buying Detroit Axle LBJ's and not OE so they failed on me about a year later. God's grace I gently coasted off the divided highway right into the shoulder... Man that was a miracle.

Update from me: Had some stuff I needed to attend to back in Detroit for the weekend, so I'm catching up and writing some stuff now. Ordered the bushings for the steering and LCA's from energy suspension, so those are on the way. I also am heading down south on Thursday to pick up a tranny + Tcase from a 1997 Tacoma, figure now's the time to start my 4x4 conversion since the trans is in question anyways. new tranny only has 120k on it, much lower than my 250k. I'm just gonna leave the front disconnected since there's nothing up there and see what happens, if all is good I'll keep on keeping on with my 4x4 conversion, if it doesn't fix the vibrating then I guess I'll keep trying out some other suggestions before continuing the rest of the conversion.

Either way I'll post my results here once its done, as well as any updates.

Good luck with the 4x4 swap. Sounds like you have a really great attitude towards tackling this project and maintaining your rig. Positivity and persistence (along with some disposable income lol) will go a long way for you.

My dad always said: where there’s a will there’s a way.

Looking forward to hearing more updates on this.

Not too much disposable income, or time, but there is definitely a will, so there's got to be a way...

    hopefully its just not this:
    :spending:
because I am in it to win it now

I'll definitely keep posted on here. Might have to change it to a build thread. Not sure yet. I'd like to have a place for someone else who had the vibrations to be able to find a solution easily. We'll see.

4WD swap complete. New transmission drives like a DREAM. My alignment is… not aligned. I’ll make a post more in depth about it later. Got home with it last night from my buddy’s shop at 1 AM, got there Thursday at 1PM, my body is still reeling from crawling around on my back for 13 hours a day 4 days straight

I will also provide a SMALL writeup of converting the mechanical speed sensor to an electronic one using the mechanical housing. cost me a total of $0, but I couldn't find any writeups explaining how, so I just went for it and it worked. Now I want to help others by showing them how. I'll do that soon.
