Hi I need to bypass my ac compressor until I can scrape up $$ to replace it. It's seized up mechanically, bearing is toast. It's a 4 cylinder...what size belt and how do I route it...picture if possible.
I don't want drive it as is...sounds horrid and worried belt will snap.
    Thanks

^Usually bypassing is done using a dummy bracket with idler pulley. It maintains the stock belt geometry. Either of these listed for 4Runner/FJ should work, as the -'09 4R/FJ has the same engine and uses the same belt as the Tacoma V6, while the Tacoma V6 and 4-cyl use the same compressor:

I appreciate it. I just wanted to get a smaller belt and reroute it bypassing the ac compressor. I can't even find a diagram showing the routing for a taco 2.7 w/o ac. I'm sure it can be done...just need the belt size

I had the issue with my pulley seizing up and the belt slipping over it. Lots of rattling and grinding. I bought the dayco 5070735 and swapped it out. No more noise. Had to pay 49 at a local parts store, wanted it done today. [IMG] Wish there was a 74 inch with 7 ribs ....the 73.5 was TIGHT, had to crank the idler arm as far as it would go and turn the power steering wheel to roll it on. Anyways, thanks for the post..it quieted my ride until I can rob a bank and get a new ac condenser installed.
I will post a picture of how to run new shorter belt. You bypass the bottom right pulley and compressor, follow the new blue line.
    Thanks again!

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I’ll guess you need just the a/c clutch.

Did you remove the lower idler pulley like the parts diagram I posted on Tuesday? I hope you didn't damage the tensioner, which would be another expense...

I did not remove the lower idler pulley. Should I? It's running fine
Its barely touching it ,,, but that might be the difference between TIGHT and right.

OK, So I just went.outside and removed the lower pulley. It did make a difference on the belt tension. Running fine and took about 10 minutes , which in 10 degrees weather felt like an hour...lol.
    Thanks for the posts!!
I had already rerouted before Tuesdays post, so I never seen the diagram....but I'm very grateful for it.. probably saved my tensioner.....thanks again.
