Please forgive me if I just haven’t found the right search terminology but my eyes are tired and my brain hurts.

    I have a 2013 V6 crew cab TRD Off-road with a manual transmission. It had an e-lock

My rear differential is shot. I sourced one about 2.5 hours away but it is an LSD rather than an E lock. He insists that it will work. Has the 3.73 ratio and an 8.75. Came off a manual transmission.

I’m really hoping it will work. Can anyone confirm this for me?

    Thank you in advance.

From my reading I feel like an LSD would be a better option anyway.

But will it work? Is the real question

If it's a 6 lug it will work but you will have to trick your 4wd ECU by Grounding the RLY1 terminal either at the actuator end or at the 4wd ECU so it will be happy.

Has anyone ever done this? Are there any articles or posts that you’d recommend I read?

If you are replacing the entire axle housing, the axle housing will bolt in and will work. If your plan is to just replace just the 3rd. member, it won't work. The axle housing for the elocker is slightly different than the non-elocker axle housing. The elocker axle housing has a notch where the 3rd member slides in and the non-elocker housing doesn't have that notch.

There a lot of threads on here on this topic.

This video isn't a 2nd gen Tacoma axle housing, but it shows what was done to modify a non-elocker housing to fit an elocker - cut a notch and drill tap some new holes as the stud location are different between an elocker and non-elocker for the 3rd member.. I 'think' (you'd need to confirm) the same differences exist between on 2nd gen Tacoma housings.

You are going the other way (elocker to non elocker). But this gives you an idea of the differences in axle housing.

Other option is to buy a rebuilt 3rd member from East Coast Gear Supply.

The LSD will not drop in. The E-lock differential is a different shape. You can swap the entire axle and housing assembly.

true LSDs were not offered for many years. I would be calling ECGS and sourcing a diff if I were in your position. $785 plus core. ECGS is in NC.

Thank you all. The plan is to swap out the entire axel housing. I’ll look into ECGS. Thanks again.
