Sup everyone! I wanted to know the general consensus of people’s opinions on the 2019 SR grille vs the 2020 SR grille. I believe the difference between the two grilles are purely aesthetic and only really come down to personal preference, but I wanted to know which one y'all liked more design wise.

I’m personally a fan of the 2019 grille. Can’t put my finger on it. Maybe it’s because I dislike how 2020 grille juts out more, and the fact that the top slit is filled in. Honestly if the top slit was open I’d probably like it a lot more.

Anyway, just thought I’d come on here and have a discussion. Currently rocking my stock 2019 OR grille. It’s honestly my favorite out of every 3rd gen grille, but I think I’m only saying that because it’s the only one I’ve seen my truck with and IMO it works with the super white tacoma the best. If I were to swap it out to go with a more matte black look, it would definitely be one of the SR grilles. Thought about the pro grille but didn’t want to risk TSS issues if I bought an aftermarket one. Also thought about the 2020 OR grille but didn’t like how it’s more of a light gray rather than a matte black, and didn’t want to bother plasti dipping it.

Hope y’all have a great week!

I have a 2019 TRD Sport, and when I ordered it, before it came in, I already had a TRD Pro grill here at my house and waiting for the truck! And yes, I had the TSS issues but it is an easy fix as one only has to put in a tiny washer in between where the mounting screws for the TSS and the grill are. Easy. I have had no problems since and it is almost 6 years now. I paid at the time, around $130 for the grill and it included the sensor cover, although I am not sure now.

Not understanding why discussion required since you have what you like.

Isn't that what matters most in the world of aesthetics?

Thanks for your response! The pro grille is IMO the grille that matches the most with the black plastic aesthetic and is the one I wanted the most at first. I didn’t know all you needed was a washer to fix the TSS issue. If I ever get my hands on one I’ll definitely try your method!

I may have posted in the wrong thread. While my discussion definitely isn’t “required,” there should be a place to just talk about whatever you want about Tacomas for fun. If you could point me in the right direction for that I would really appreciate that. Thanks!

Yes, I mean, back in the days when 3rd generations came out, for the first couple of years or so, everybody was putting on a trd pro grill. So there was lots of discussion about the TSS issues with the PCS OFF light coming on in the dash. You just have to look at it logically. The truck comes with the sensor behind the toyota logo in the grill, which is in the center. With the TRD Pro grills, the sensor is at the bottom of the grill, so it is at a different height or lower. So you just have to basically somewhat turn or angle the sensor so it is pointing slightly upwards, to somewhat mimick the same angle as if it was still in the OEM grill. That is why it is simply a matter of putting in a washer to then make the sensor fit in at a very slightly more upwards angle.
