In heavy rain, where there were standing puddles of water on the highway, as I was driving @ 45mph due to the heavy rain, in 2wd, my 4x4 light on the dash (red) beeped and flickered several times. I did not have my hands anywhere near the 4x4 selector knob at all. Do I need to get this checked out or is this normal?

Was the truck telling me that conditions were such that I should I have put it in 4wd?

Sounds like it was a suggestion alert.
    I'm sure you're fine.

Per the owner's manual, there aren't any warning lights that involves the 4wd icon, nor any alert that suggests to you that you should be in 4wd. The manual also says if a light comes on or flashes, but then goes off, this does not necessarily indicate a malfunction in the system, however if it continues to occur, to take it to a dealer to have it inspected.

I'd chalk it up to a one-off but if it happens again (and you're sure it's the 4wd light, not traction control or something else that might make sense in heavy rain), then I would take it to the dealer to have it checked out.

Predictive 4WD for dummies, now there is an idea worth exploring! :)

PS: sounds like your girl just got a little moist! I personally would just drive on unless it happens again. But then again, what the hell do I know.
