So, My wife gets home from work around 4p today. I took the trash out at 930p and heard a buzzing near the Taco. I take a closer look and the fuel pump is running. Must have been running for over 5 hours. I had to start the truck and then shut it off and the pump stopped.

WTF, Toyota? A way to sell more fuel pumps? I had a HP printer and randomly overnight it would do a print head test...a hundred times/pages per night. Empty all my ink and paper. Is this something like that? (rhetorical)

It's not the fuel pump, it's the vacuum pump running an EVAP test. It's in your owners manual, page 8.

Well, thank the government. An evap pump, wow. I'm sure we'd all be dead without all these regulations.

It's not anything new, Toyota has used the same system since 05.

It simply pulls a vacuum on the tank to check for leaks, other manufacturers use different methods to check for leaks but EVAP monitoring has been required on passenger cars and trucks since 96.

Shipmate, considering what all the government pumped into you without your knowledge in the Navy, I think a fuel pump running for a few minutes is the least of your concern. :oldglory:

Yes, this is all part of a massive world wide conspiracy by Mother Toyota to sell a ton of extra fuel pumps to send their stock price through the roof. I'm so glad this treachery has finally been exposed.

You should thank them, or your lungs will, at least.

I don't know about anyone else, but I actually appreciate cleaner air to breathe (especially in my house). I never considered that being a bad thing...
