When driving I can feel a very slight vibration even in the steering wheel that feels like the torque converter engaging, usually in higher gears from 1500-2000 rpm. Wondering if anyone else has been experiencing the same. I feel like I didn’t notice this before but am at 10k miles now.

kind’ve makes it feel like a truck with much more than 10k miles

You sure it's not the engine lugging a little bit? Around 45ish my truck will want to stay in the higher gears and you can feel it kind of lug and vibrate a little bit giving it a little extra gas before it downshifts.

Not that bad haha. Sounds more like a subtle hum. And can barely feel but always starts at same rpm

I thought I felt the same thing you’re describing. I also didn’t notice it until I had the truck for 5 months and put 9k miles on it. I ended up going to the dealership and test driving another one and it feels the same way. I think its just a characteristic of these 8 speed transmissions.

being a GM transmission tech i have felt my share of torque converter shudder concerns. my iforce maxx has weird shudders now and then ,but none of them i would say led me to belive that it was a TCC shudder. "torque converter clutch shudder".

Are you in 4H? Confused why you'd feel torque converter in the steering when in 2H. I've noticed nothing.

It's less Tacoma and more mod
Toyota uses variable locking like most manufacturers these days too. So it is always engaging and disengaging little amounts until full lock occurs, it really shouldn't shudder

I have to say mine feels like it slips more than normal before it locks up. However, I have 25k miles on it with zero problems, and it’s felt basically the same from new. It does vibrate as well at low rpm’s and low speed in a tall gear.

I’ve seen a couple people on here with more mileage. It’s always the ones who use the truck for work. (I do that as well) No one drives that much for fun.

I feel the torque converter move under my feet
I feel the RPM tumble down.
My heart starts to tremble, when the gearbox shifts around.

You should see my face, mellow as the month of May
    Dude, I can't stand it
When the transmission feels that way.

I do feel it lock up and unlock, yes. It hasn't struck me as behaving any different from most electrohydraulic automatic transmission cars with lockup torque converters I've had. Well, besides the one where the software was known to be dodgy, but that was an outlier.
