One of my back up lights is out.
Going back and forth if I should change both to LEDs.
Just do not want any shorts or bulb falling out into light housing, as others had happened.
Any comments or suggestions on good replacements?
    Thank you
    Barry

The VLEDS tail kit is a good option to improve the rear lightning functionality and also get quality bulbs that improve reverse brightness.

I used bulbs from 12v landscape lighting.

Read about it here somewhere. Plenty bright and don't overwhelm the camera.

If you need really bright rear lights for things like camp set up, repairs, etc a separate circuit with manually switched lights works well. Of course you can also flip them on if you need auxiliary back up lighting in some situation.

Is the housing socket deep enough to accept these replacements and do they cause shorts or electrical problems

The electrical systems are balanced in the design phase for halogen bulb "resistance". When different resistance bulbs go in, you sometimes get odd behavior like "hyperflashing" or "flash on once, then stop". VLED provides a special "resistor" to restore the balance when the entire set of taillights (turn, brake, reverse) is replaced (not trying to push you to them, just saying VLED knows about and addresses the issue).

It is possible to get slightly odd behavior with LED replacements for halogen.

EDIT: If you have those issues, do NOT cut wires to install new resistors. VLED solution is a plug-in addition to their special-supplied wiring harness that does NOT cause wiring short-circuits that can burn out parts of the central ECU module.

this is for turn signals because the relay cannot handle the low amperage draw.

reverse lights are different. Don’t have this problem.

I had cheapo white LED in for the reverse. They looked bright to me when I stared at them. One started flickering 2yrs later and when I started looking for replacement I read crashnburn excellent write up. I have the 12v osram halogen landscape bulbs in. They don’t seem that impressive looking directly at them but from behind the driver seat there is a much noticeable improvement in spread and illumination. Highly recommend. Even put a set into my wife mazda3 sedan
